Lee Kanehira Blues Piano
Lee Kanehira, who goes by the nickname Miss Lee, hails from Tagawa, a coal mining city in South Japan. A classically-trained pianist, Miss Lee fell in love with the blues after graduating from music college, and taught herself to play and sing. Her career spans Japan, Korea, China, the U.S., Canada and Europe. Lee, who tours regularly with the Cash Box Kings, was the winner of the 2018 Chicago Blues Piano Contest and was nominated for the 2025 Blues Blast Music Awards in the Best Acoustic Blues Album category. She made leader albums “Union Meetin’” (2014) with her Chicago friends and “Lee’s Boogie” (2017) on her own. According to Blues Blast Magazine, Lee Kanehira’s third solo release, The Chicago Blues Piano Trio!! (2024), “presents a mixture of elegant, raunchy, and stirring blues tunes, driven primarily by piano and Kanhehira’s vocals.” As the liner notes say, the album “ celebrates the timeless charm of classic blues and boogie-woogie piano.”
